I chose to use this poster because I feel its simplicity creates comedy and this is what I was hoping to achieve. Its easy to understand because its all visual.
To make the poster I used photoshop. The man, and boxes were made in photoshop using the shape tools and fill in selected with "strokes" which means it gives the selected layer a outline.
The text I got off fonts.com- http://www.fonts.com/findfonts/detail.htm?productid=174096
The brut logo I photographed myself with a Brut aftershave box, then I cut it out and set it to colour dodge to blend the greens, greys and blacks with the bright green background and it left the highlights making them contrast and stand out.
The background is a stock image from "Advanced photoshop" magazine CD. I liked with background because of the texture and colour, its simple so it doesn't drag attetion away from the image and text.

Ideas for posters
These are just rough ideas for posters. I'm going to ask for feedback of them and work on the favorites. If there is one clear favorite then I will pick that to work on for my final poster idea.
The ideas for the posters were inspired by the slogans. Some are ruder, cruder and not as refined ideas as others but thats the point of roughs I feel. I chose to keep with the brut colours, green, white and black. I did this because I want it to be apart of the message, hopeful people will look at the simple design and connect brut with green, so when they go shopping its stuck in their mind.
I used images from google images but when it comes to do the real thing I will make all images by scratch, using photoshop and the many tool it possesses to create the images. I will also use free stock images from deaviant art and I will keep inside the terms and conditions.

Task update
Week 4
After the 2D presentation we started to look how websites can look the part but are they correct. We had to look at a selection of websites and put the websites in order of legitimately. This was a great insight in how a fancy website layout can change the minds first inpression. This helped me understand to read first what text says before believing it.
We also had a breif introduction to photoshop and the major task breif.
Week 5
A health and safety and risk assement talk. We look in to the definition of words and how they effect a risk assement when uses wrong. We saw how health and safety is important and why we use it.This helped me understand health and saftey more and how to do risk assments properly.
Week7
We had to create a powerpoint presentation and to use hyperlinks to link the pages together so you can get from one page to another without going through all over them.
Week 8,9,10
As a group of six we had to plan a five minute long silent film. Each shot had to be played due to the camera using tape (we it was hard to re-do scene do to rewind) and we weren't aloud to use post preduction.
We chose to go with a simple script about a man who goes out to buy milk, but he has no money to he steals it. On leaving the shop a theif steal his milk and chases after him, after the chase scene he gets the milk back and heads home but finds himself on the wrong side of the flats. As he hold the milk up to show victory he drops it over the balkany and it explodes.
Filming went smooth, the only problems we had was that we could stop the fade out between scene so we had to ask the technician and the shop was very busy so we had to use the corner of the shop.
On watching the film on the big scene we saw that most of the film was out of focus and some scenes were way too dark.
I learnt that pre-production is very important to do so you get a nice smooth shooting of the scenes and also you save alot of time. Also to check lighting before shooting and to test the camera out before final shooting.

Old spice rebranding.
Old spice was a 1930s product that was much like Brut, they started strong then faded. But in early 2000's Procter & Gamble rebranded it. They made it an 'experience', something that you needed. Now they brnading it as something that can enhance the male experience for women. They new advert shows a man talking to the viwing woman at home saying everything they could have and how their man isn't like him but if they smelt like him its just as good.
I want to do they same with Brut but now advertise to the women but to the men. I want to show how Brut can add to their aura and make them remembered and wanted by women.

Brut slogan
I want to do a slogan related to the history of brut, be it a henry cooper refrence, help the heros or the 33% cologne. I used the Brut website for refrences and one liners from the adverts. http://www.brutformen.co.uk/gallery/
Ideas:
67% man 33% Brut
Greatest Knock out
Release the Brut
Man, the essence of Brut
Brut, punch-gent
Be more than a man, be a Brut
Remember the Heros.
Brut-ish charm
33% more man than you.
I love the smell of Brut in the morning
Be the greatest, brut
Brut, what a knock out
Its hard to beat the best, Brut.
Become a Brut
Old classic, new Hit. Brut
delcare yourself a Brut
Proud to be Brut
"On to a winner" Always a winner.

Brut adverts today
Brut aftershave adverts today have cheesy one liners. Brut is aware of its ‘cheap’ and smell for ‘old grumpy men’, I feel this is just putting the product down. Some products can get away with making fun of itself but Brut doesn’t do it in a funny tasteful way.
The colour scheme is completely white and green, which are the colours of Brut. The text has a worn look; I think this is because it’s an old aftershave. The layout is a photo of brut from below and the text enhances the ‘looking up’ view.I think the target market is the older gentalman. I want to change the market to 18-late 20s, the older men will still wear and buy it if they like it. Choosing to go for a younger person will help boost sales and bring Brut back to the main bands market. To make it appeal to younger genaration the advertising must be simple, remeberable and funny.

Layout of posters/ adverts.
The layouts of most aftershave adverts are very similar. The aftershave bottle is in the bottom corner (usually the right) and the main focus is a man with a perfect body looking at you, towards you or at the woman he’s with. Because you can’t smell the aftershave they have to sell an idea or style. The advert has to stick in the mind of the viewer so when they come to try aftershaves they will think about trying yours. The colours used in the adverts are always the same as the bottle so there is a connection between the main focus and the bottle.

Lynx is the most successful male deodorant on the market. It’s cheeky and easy to remember adverts keep it current, they also are constantly bringing out new fragrances with a twist. Some special edition, some can change sent when mix with another. All of there campaigns are around how using lynx can help you get girls and stop that embracing sent that you create.
Lynx focuses on the males sent getting the girls attetnion which is cheeky but not offensive. I want to use the same tounge and cheek humour in my poster.
All of the posters focus on the woman and the effect or want for the man. In my posters I want to be more the effect on the man more than the woman.

Brut rebranding- Brut research and ideas
This video is a scene from James Bond man with the golden gun, in this scene James uses Brut to defend himself. This could be a point to start with my ideas, Brut is a defensive againist something or a must have wepon.
Brut's website have all the products, history and adverts over the years. Whats most intresting is their range of deodorants, they have six types and all with different colours and names. Again this could be a starting point for a team ideas, each on has a personaility.
Many of the new Brut ads have cheesey manly one-liners which are funny but don't improve the image of the product. Cheesy wit is the lowest form of advertising.Henry Cooper is a great icon in british and male history being remember for knocking our Ali along with a great boxing history. This along with the "help the heros" campaign that Brut is doing would go well with Henry Cooper, "remember the heros".

Final slides
I chose to do different background for each slide to add a little instrest to the slides, I also highlighted "shot up" because it was in main focus, I wated to add to it.
Ideas for powerpoint
These are some of the layout ideas I've had, I chose to be simple because of the impact that it has. If its easier to read its easier to remember.
I chose this layout because of the simplicity, theres only one photo one the presentation because I want what I'm saying to be more important than the photo. The same bursts of info can be read then I will elaborate on it.
A few videos of powerpoint tips I found helpful
These simple tips can help me stay clear of any boring or un-instresting slides.

2D Animation presentation
In the first the first lecture we were split up into groups of around five to discuss and prepaire a presentation on a theme. My groups was 2D animation, we desided to do the history of 2D anmation in a matter of minutes because we felt it had alot and we could easily split it between the five of us. I chose to do 1900-1920s(ish), I started by searching on google for a 2D animation timeline to give me a starting point. The first thing I looked at was the magic wheel also known as the phenakistoscope made by Belgain Joseph Plateau in 1831, you could see the images throught the splits at the side and when spun it made the images 'move' or animate.
In 1869 John Barnes Linnet patterned the flipbook. Patterns were put in place on most new technquies in animation due to the rapid evolution of it, so people had to protect there technquies from bigger and more successful animators and scientists.
The Phenakistoscope was enhanced with a mirror in the middle insted of the old version were you had to look through slots. The mirror kept the images steady and also aloud the images to be projected on the a surface.
As machines were being made to make images move J.Stuart Blackton in 1906 used a camera to animate his images by taking one after he editted the drawing which has been a basic way to do animate even now. His most famous animation was the Humorous phases of funny faces which was simply chalk and blackboard.
Wisor Mc Cat and Wallace Carlson were two of the best animators around 1910, McCay made over four thousand animations and successfuly managed to get movement down to an art but Carlson had the witt for more entertaining animations, he also started off the style that was picked up by Walt Disney.

The presentation
I think on the hole our presentation went well, we met twice to sort out who was doing what and to share information. We left making the power point to the day of the presentation which let us down because we didn't have time to sort out what would look best and to add links to videos to show the animations. We decided to not put any information of the power point excluding names, we chose to do this because we didn't want people trying to read, listen and look at the images, in our experience we found it hard to listen when there was too much information on screen.
I feel the work was evenly distributed but we failed to allocate the job of the power point to one person which probably would of been better than taking it in turns to do our slides ourselves, if I were to do it again I would give myself the job of doing the PowerPoint because I don't mind putting in some research on how to get different effects and how to add videos.
The entire group gave great encouragement and feedback on ideas and criticism, Anne also made a face book group so we could arrange times, meeting places and also to share relevant information to each other.
